5 ways to increase online giving before the New Year
Don’t give up just yet on fundraising for 2010- 22% of online donations are made on December 30 and 31. Yup, almost a quarter of online gifts are made in the last TWO DAYS OF THE YEAR! Furthermore, Network for Good’s Online Giving Study tells us that online December donors are 52% more generous than donors who give during the other 11 months of the year.
Here are 5 activities you should do now to ramp up your fundraising efforts over the next 37 hours.
- Test your system. Make sure giving online to your organization is seamless and easy.
- Send an e-mail to your donor base reminding them why they support you and that time is running out to make a year-end gift. Make it short and sweet.
- Ask your board to forward the e-mail on to their friends.
- Update your web homepage or landing page with a specific call to action to donate. Check out the websites of local nonprofits, Minnesota Public Radio and the Initiative Foundation for good examples of this.
- Update your blog to include a story about a client you’ve served. Post the blog on your Facebook page (if your nonprofit doesn’t have one, post one to your personal page…also remember to share it with your friends).
Remember that people give to people, not causes. Be creative, succinct and compelling in your writing. And as Kim Klein puts it: “8 out of 10 people give to charity. If you want them to give to your charity, you’d better A-S-K!”
Happy New Year from everyone at HBH!
