Dayton Hultgren

Dayton Hultgren offers a distinguished background in education and business consulting, including more than 30 years of professional experience in executive management, fund development, planning, coaching, mentoring and teaching.  He has a talent for building cooperation and trust among diverse constituencies, personnel and volunteer leaders.

He received his B.S. degree from Mayville State University, his B.D. degree from the University of Dubuque Theological School, and his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in educational psychology and higher education from the University of Minnesota.  He received a two-year fellowship for graduate study at the University of Minnesota from the National Institute of Mental Health and a National Campus Ministry Association grant for study at Harvard University.

Dayton has served on the faculty of Macalester College, and also as president of United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities and San Francisco Theological Seminary. At the Universities of Minnesota, Iowa State and St. Thomas, he directed development programs during successful major capital campaigns.

He was instrumental in the design and establishment of the Institute of Theological Education Management in cooperation with the Riverside Group of Columbia University Graduate School of Management and the Lilly Endowment.  He chaired the oversight committee for that project, as well as the board of directors of Ministers Life Insurance Company.

His community service includes work with the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits, Mayville State University Foundation, Minnesota Planned Giving Council Board of Directors, Indiana Center on Philanthropy, Association of Governing Boards, Council for the Advancement and Support of Education, Minnesota Vital Aging Network Leadership Advisory Board, Berkeley Graduate Theological Union, national accreditation associations and regional/national church agencies.  Dayton has been recognized with an Honorary Doctorate degree and Distinguished Alumnus award.
