Katrina Pierson
Katrina Pierson takes an all-encompassing approach to the areas of grant writing, strategic communications, fundraising, and marketing. Through effective storytelling and strategic messaging, she helps nonprofits to create a compelling case for support that allows them to meet and exceed ambitious goals.
Katrina has a proven track record of success in writing revenue-producing grant proposals for a variety of nonprofit organizations. With a background in arts and culture, youth development, healthcare and the environment, Katrina brings a fresh perspective to the firm. Before joining HBH as a Senior Associate in 2010, she served as the Director of Development for the Great River Educational Arts Theatre (GREAT), a family theatre in St. Cloud, Minnesota and has worked with several nonprofits as a staff member and consultant in fundraising and communication roles.
In 2009, she was part of the team at Riverwood Healthcare Center in Aitkin that earned the Minnesota Department of Health’s Rural Health Team Award for outstanding contributions to healthcare. She was integral in launching the award-winning Nurse Navigator Breast Health Program that is now a model in several Minnesota-based healthcare systems.
Katrina specializes in donor communications and cultivation and is enthusiastic about engaging a new generation of givers through social media and online fundraising. She has taught grant writing and communications to professionals in the not-for-profit sector in workshops and seminars throughout Minnesota. Recent workshop topics have included: Grant Writing Essentials, Keeping your Donors: A High-Touch Approach in a High-Tech World and Blogging for the Common Good.
Katrina graduated magna cum laude from St. Cloud State University with a B.A. degree in English and Mass Communications. She currently serves as chair of the Central Minnesota Sustainability Project in St. Cloud and is committed to improving the world through her work as a consultant, volunteer and donor. She makes her home in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota where she enjoys music, poetry, biking and weekly visits to the farmers market with her husband John and three-year-old, Jack. Katrina is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
