MCN conference recognizes, informs, inspires

The Minnesota Council of Nonprofits held their annual conference, the Nonprofit State Fair, October 7-8 at the Decc in Duluth. I can’t remember the last time it hit 80 degrees in Duluth in mid-October…the organizers definitely ordered up some truly extraordinary weather for the occasion!

Among the highlights of the event included an awards ceremony where MCN and MAP for Nonprofits recognized six remarkable nonprofits doing service to people in our state. They included:

GiveMN for Innovation, The Frey Foundation for Responsive Philanthropy, The Loft Literary Center’s Equilibrium Spoken Word Series for Anti-Racism Initiative, The Second Chance Coalition for Advocacy, Springboard for the Arts for Excellence in a Small Organization and Wilderness Inquiry for Excellence in a Large Organization.

Gubernatorial candidates Tom Horner and Mark Dayton also joined 1,000+ nonprofit leaders for a lunch forum Friday where they weighed in on some the issues nonprofits will face over the next four years. There a variety of break-out sessions to choose from with topics ranging from “What your video says about your nonprofit” and “To merge, or not to merge” to “Transformative governance for critical times.”

I hope you enjoy the photos as much as I relished taking them. Congratulations to this year’s nonprofit excellence and mission award winners and thanks to MCN for a great event!
