The Center for Nonprofit Excellence and Social Innovation is presenting its 3rd annual Innovation Summit from 8-11 a.m. at St. Cloud’s River’s Edge Convention Center.

The Summit will include a presentation of the 2011-2012 St. Cloud Area Nonprofit Innovation Awards, Innovation Roundtable invitations and table conversations to further explore approaches presented by the speakers. ING Direct is the Innovation Award sponsor.

Esther Kim will present “Investing in Innovative Business Models to Achieve Social Outcomes.” Esther Kim is the Portfolio Director at REDF, a nonprofit venture philanthropy organization based in San Francisco.  The Roberts Enterprise Development Fund [REDF] invests in a portfolio of job-creating nonprofit social enterprises to employ and train disadvantaged people in the Bay Area.  Esther oversees all aspects of REDF’s portfolio strategy and execution, including due diligence, grant making, business assistance, and planning for new portfolio initiatives.

Steve Rothschild

Steve Rothschild will speak on “Social Impact Investing for Nonprofit Sustainability” which will explore the new investing area called “social impact investing.” He will review the two most prominent vehicles, “social impact bonds” and “human capital performance bonds”. The human capital performance bond will be a pilot in Minnesota, so he will describe it in some detail. Steve is the author of The Non Nonprofit: For-profit Thinking for Nonprofit Success, ( Jossey-Bass, a Wiley imprint) publishing in February 2012.

A speakers forum, in partnership with the Anderson Center will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The Center for Nonprofit Excellence and Social Innovation (CNESI) engages, stimulates and transforms nonprofit organizations by  recognizing and supporting promising and innovative practices for greater community impact. They have been integral to the success of a number of emerging nonprofit organizations in St. Cloud.
